The President of the Federal Railway Authority is Mr Gerald Hörster.
Gerald Hörster, a trained legal professional, has headed the Federal Railway Authority since 26 January 2009. Mr Hörster came from the Federal Ministry of Transport, Building and Urban Development, where his last position was head of the division responsible for the financing of investment in the existing network of federal railway infrastructure.
He was born in Wuppertal in 1957. After passing his school-leaving examination, he studied law at the Ruhr University in Bochum. After passing his Second State Examination in Law, he worked first as a lawyer and subsequently for the then German Federal Railways, before transferring to the Federal Ministry of Transport – today’s Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure – in 1986. There, he worked in the following fields: personnel, public procurement auditing, local transport, railway policy issues, and investment planning and financing in the rail sector.
