National Safety Rules

In accordance with the first EU Safety Directive 2004/49/EC, the Federal Railway Authority has initially informed the European Commission about relevant national safety rules for the rail system in Germany back in 2008. The “Communication from the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Commission of the European Communities" dates 25 January 2008.

The European Union Agency for Railways (ERA) has further developed the definition of national safety rules, and the notification was updated accordingly. The new EU Safety Directive 2019/798 brought further development to this subject. Information on notified national safety rules will in future be available in ERA databases "NOTIF-IT" (database for the notification of national railway safety and technical rules) or "SRD" single rules database respectively. The current notification of German national safety rules is still under evaluation by ERA. The applicable set of national safety rules can be downloaded below. Further information is also available in EBA's guideline on single safety certificate (in German language).
